Adaptive leadership in Bergen
by chet ~ April 18th, 2008. Filed under: Boyd's Theories, Latest News.Norway, that is, at the Royal Norwegian Naval Academy. The Academy sponsored an intensive seminar in adaptive leadership on Wednesday (4/16) that was attended by representatives from all the Norwegian Armed Forces. At the end, there was the traditional panel discussion that really did turn into a discussion. Most fun I’ve had since the ALC in Greenville last month.

Speakers — and panel members — left to right are:
- Bruce Gudmundsson, military historian and author of Stormtroop Tactics, a case study in how large organizations can effect significant change
- Prof. Endre Sjøvold of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim. Dr. Sjøvold is the creator of the SPGR (Systematizing the Person-Group Relationship) methodology for assesing how ready groups are to employ maneuver warfare.
- Me
- Commander Stein Forsdahl, author of the master’s thesis recently posted on DNI that describes using SPGR in the officer selection process
- Lt Cdr Geir Ove Venemyr of the leadership branch at the Academy (standing)
- Lt Cdr Tommy Krabberød, also of the leadership branch
After the seminar, a group of us converged on the old town of Bergen to reenact Boyd’s famous Wednesday evening happy hours at Ft. Myer. In keeping with that tradition, I have only dim memories after about 7 pm.
